Hard work paid off when AVFD was awarded to receive a SAFER Grant for recruitment and retention. This grant has allowed us to obtain not just one, or two, but TEN sets of firefighting structural gear. This personal protective equipment has a life span of 10 years before it is not compliant. So far we have the boots and gloves, waiting for the rest of the gear to come in!
Not only did the SAFER Grant help with turnout gear, it also assisted with giving back just a little more to our volunteers. We were able to provide volunteers a pay per shift program for a year. Each volunteer can clock in and clock when they are able to dedicate their time at the station. This program gives back to the volunteers for their dedication this department and this community.
